Bayern Munich set a new scoring record in European football after a 5-1 victory over 1. FC Köln saw them finish the season with 122 goals in all competitions.

The Bundesliga champions surpassed the previous record for most goals scored in a single season by a club from Europe’s top five leagues, while also extending their unbeaten run against Cologne to 23 matches.

Manager Vincent Kompany’s side started aggressively and took the lead early through Harry Kane, who volleyed home from a cross delivered by Lennart Karl.

Kane struck again shortly afterwards with a powerful finish from the edge of the area as Bayern pushed toward the scoring milestone.

Cologne briefly responded when Said El Mala produced an impressive solo run before calmly finishing into the bottom corner.

However, Bayern quickly restored control as Tom Bischof converted Karl’s cutback to make it 3-1 before halftime.

The home side continued to create chances after the break, with Jamal Musiala and Karl both striking the woodwork as Bayern searched for more goals.

Luis Díaz also missed a clear opportunity before Kane completed his hat trick with a long range strike that brought Bayern level with the previous all time scoring record.

The record breaking moment arrived in the 83rd minute when substitute Nicolas Jackson raced through on goal and finished calmly past goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe.

The victory highlighted Bayern’s dominance throughout the campaign, with Kompany guiding the club to the Bundesliga title in emphatic fashion during his first season in charge.

For Cologne, the defeat had little impact after the club had already secured Bundesliga survival before the final round of fixtures.
